Music Break

This month's break includes songs that aren't very well known, at least here in the U.S.  Most of these I've only recently run across.

Starting off is Gudbuy T'Jane by Slade, who developed their own way of spelling their titles.  Their songs Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now were both covered by Quiet Riot.  During their heyday, Slade consisted of Noddy Holder (lead vocals & guitar), Dave Hill (lead guitar & vocals), Jim Lea (bass, keyboards, violin & vocals) and Don Powell (drums).  Today, only Hill and Powell remain from the original lineup.

Two months ago, the music break featured the Scottish group Middle Of The Road.  Here's another one of theirs, Bloody Monday.  The banjo and military-style drumming make it sound like something you'd hear in a Civil War documentary.

From Time And A Word, the second album by the original lineup of Yes, this is Sweet Dreams.

In 1972, Gary Glitter (real name Paul Gadd) had a big hit with Rock & Roll Part 2.  This is the lesser known Part 1.

During the early 1970's, the Osmonds would serve up some bubble gum-like pop, but every once in a while they would rock out, such as with Hold Her Tight.  The bass line is similar to The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, but the rest of the song is very different.
