Charles Steger 1947-2018

Former Virginia Tech president Charles Steger died in his home in Blacksburg, Virginia yesterday, at the age of 70.  He had served as the school's president from 2000 to 2014, after previously being a student, instructor, department head, dean, and vice president, all at Virginia Tech.  He received his bachelor's degree in 1969 and his master's in 1970, both in architecture, and his PhD in environmental sciences and engineering in 1978.  He served as the dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies from 1981 to 1993, during which the university to establish a campus in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland, which now bears his name.

Dr. Steger is survived by his wife Janet, their two sons, a brother, and two sisters.
